#2. The Next World Leader
Date: 2025-11-10
Body: The King of Babylon's Dream
Daniel 2:1-5
The king of Babylon has a troubling dream. He calls his wise men
to tell him what it means, but he cannot remember the dream, and as a result they cannot interpret it.
Daniel 2:16
Daniel, a young Hebrew captive in Babylon, asks for a chance to interpret the king's dream.
Daniel 2:19-35
God shows Daniel both the dream and its meaning. Daniel tells the king he saw an image-head of gold, breast and arms of silver,
belly and thighs of brass, and legs of iron. The king now recalls that yes, this was his dream, but what does it mean?
Daniel 2:36-38 Daniel tells Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, "Thou art this head of gold." The head represents Babylon, the great empire that in 606 BC began to reign in golden splendor.
Daniel 2:39 Medo-Persia, though as inferior to Babylon as silver is inferior to gold, would nevertheless overthrow Babylon. History tells us this happened in 538 BC. The third kingdom of brass took over in 331 BC, when Alex¬ander the Great led Greece to conquer the then-known world.
Daniel 2:40 The iron kingdom of Rome, the fourth to rule, became the undisputed superpower in 168 BC. What next? Would another world empire follow that of Rome?
Daniel 2:41 Unlike the others, Rome would remain, but in a divided condition. By 476 AD, 10 barbaric tribes had claimed Rome's territory, and seven of these ten kingdoms have become the nations that we know as England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Portugal. But three of the original ten tribes no longer exist.
Daniel 2:42 As the feet and toes were part iron, part clay, some of those that remain are strong nations, some weak.
Daniel 2:43 These nations will not cleave, or stick together. Through the centuries, many attempts have been made to join the nations of Europe by military conquest or intermarriage, but they have failed. Yet just while attempts are being made to form a new world order, ...
Daniel 2:44, 45 A stone cut out "without hands" hits the image in the feet and becomes a mountain that fills the whole earth. This represents the everlasting, glorious kingdom that God will set up for His people.
The next world leader is Jesus Christ, the Rock of our salvation. The stone represents Jesus at His second coming. At that time the kingdoms of this world will disappear.
Nebuchadnezzar marveled at the interpretation of his dream.
Daniel 2:46,47 The king believes Daniel and believes in Daniel's God, but soon afterward he forgets.
The King Sets Up An Image
Daniel 3:1 The prophetic dream had revealed the history of the world up to the second coming of Christ, with successive kingdoms ruling the world, but the king did not want that to happen. He made an image all of gold. By this he represented the great Babylon, which he had built, ruling forever. Exalting his own human achievements, he rejected what God had said. The image was 60 cubits high and six cubits wide, and the Bible tells us that six is the number of a man.
Daniel 3:2-6 The king invited the VIP's of his kingdom to see the image, and then told them all to bow down and worship it! He enforced the false worship of a false god. When he rejected God, he revealed the spirit of the devil.
Daniel 3:12 But not everyone fell before the image. Three men stood tall for God while everyone else bowed down.
Daniel 3:19,20 The king became furious and ordered the three to be thrown into the furnace, again showing the spirit of the devil. Would God let them die in the flames?
Daniel 3:24,25 When the king looks into the furnace, he sees not three men, but four, and the fourth is Jesus, the Son of God. They stood for God, and Jesus stood for them. It is the same today. If we stand true for God, Jesus will stand for us.
Maybe you feel like you're going through the furnace sometimes. If so, remember that Jesus will go through it with you and will not let it destroy you.
Isaiah 43:1,2 God has called the redeemed by name, and they are His. He has promised that whether we go through the waters or the fire, our Savior will be with us.
Nebuchadnezzar wanted his plans to overrule God's plans, but they could not. No matter how much we convince ourselves that things are going to go our way, still God's word is going to come to pass.
Another Image Will Be Set Up
In the end, there will be an attempt to get the world to worship a man-made image in the place of God. Revelation calls it the image of the beast.
Revelation 13:13-14 What will be the result of worshiping the image?
Revelation 14:9,10 Here we see serious issues brought to view
associated with the mark of the beast. Why do people end up worshipping the image and receiving the mark.
Revelation 14:8 The world is going to drink the wine of Babylon and become drunk. This will cause the world to become so confused that they will worship the image and receive the mark of the beast. It happens just before Jesus comes the second time.
Revelation 14:14-16 What will happen to the nations at the end?
Revelation 19:11-15 Jesus will come to smite the nations and rule with a rod of iron. What does that mean?
Revelation 2:27 It means the nations of the earth will be broken to shivers, or small pieces. Where else have we read about the nations being shattered?
Daniel 2:44,45 Jesus, represented by the stone, shatters earth's kingdoms at His second coming. We see here how the book of Daniel unlocks the meaning of the Revelation. The worship of the image in Daniel's day sheds light on the worship of the image in the last days. It is the worship of the word and works of man above the word and works of God!
Who will have our worship? Who will have our service? We are going to see how the Antichrist will try to shift our focus from the true worship of God to false worship, from the true Jesus to a false Jesus. The dream of Nebuchadnezzar shows what will happen to man's achievements. The kingdoms of the world will be broken to pieces at Jesus' 2nd coming. Which side will we be on?
Notice what Jesus said.
Matthew 21:43,44 Whoever falls on this stone will be broken, but whoever the stone falls on will be ground to powder. What does it mean to be broken? Knowing that without Jesus we are lost and casting ourselves on His mercy, forsaking our sins to follow Jesus with the humility of a child, believing in His forgiving love, determining to live by His word, we fall on the rock and are broken. Jesus will forgive us.
The world places its own ideas above the will of God. We must place God's will above our own. At the second coming, the kingdoms of the world will be destroyed, ground to powder and blown away. God will set up His kingdom. Those who renounced the world and its ways will rejoice in the kingdom of God!
In the quiet of your own heart, why not tell Jesus that you want to follow Him and His ways.
#3. Revelation's Victory Shout!
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: Revelation 19:1,5,6 John describes a great multitude in heaven at the day of final victory.
Revelation 7:9,10 This great multitude, coming from every nation, kindred, tongue and people, all shout in glorious victory.
Revelation 19:7-9 The great multitude is made up of people who are wearing clean, white garments, representing the righteousness of saints. Yet this righteousness is not natural to them, because man is not naturally righ¬teous. Our natural tendency is to want our own way instead of God's way.
Romans 3:10,23 There is nobody who is righteous in himself be¬cause every one of us has sinned.
Romans 5:12 Since sin entered the world in Adam's time, we have all partaken of it, and so the sentence of death has passed upon all men.
Romans 8:6,7 The natural, carnal mind leads to death, because it is at enmity with God.
Jeremiah 13:23 We are not able to make ourselves good.
Ezekiel 18:4 Death is the sure result of sin.
Romans 6:23 The wages or reward of sin is eternal death.
When we are at enmity with God, we think we are okay. We are lost, and yet we don't know we are lost. For this reason, God is always working in our lives, bringing circumstances that cause us to want to make a change for the better. Have you ever felt this desire? The Bible calls this desire for change "repen¬tance". How can we get it?
Acts 5:31 Repentance is a gift. A desire to change comes to us as a gift from God. Our minds are naturally at odds with God and do not want to change, to be subject to Him, and yet God promises to give us the gift of repentance.
Romans 5:6-8 God loves us before we change, while we are still sinners and enemies against Him. That's why He can draw us to Himself with His love.
Romans 2:4 Seeing the goodness, longsuffering, and compassion of a God Who gave His Son to take our sins and die so we could have eter¬nal life leads us to desire a change. When we see how much God loves us and how much we have hurt Him by our course of action, we accept the repentance God gives us, and we want to give our hearts to God so He can change us.
When you see God's love and desire Him to change you, you pray, confessing your sins, giving your heart to God and asking Him to live in you to help you do what is right. But what really happens when you give your heart to God? Two things:
1 John 1:9 First, Christ cleanses you from all unrighteousness. When you kneel down and confess the sins of your life, God for¬gives those sins. How do you know they are forgiven? Because He says so right here in the Bible. You just have to believe what He says. You have done your part by confessing your sins, and you believe that He does His part in forgiving and cleans¬ing you from sin.
Romans 3:24-26 Jesus died to be a "propitiation" (atoning sacrifice) for our sins. That means that Jesus died in the place of the sinner. And how does Jesus become the atoning sacrifice for you individually? Through faith in His blood. You believe that when Jesus died on that cross some 2,000 years ago, He died there for the sins you have committed. When you believe this, notice what God does. He declares, like a judge handing down a sen¬tence, His own righ¬teousness for the remission of sins that are past. God says that He places your sins on the record of Christ's life and He places the flawless obedience of Jesus on the record of your life. That means that now it is as if you had lived a perfect life like Christ's with no more guilt, remorse, or condemna¬tion, because Christ took the punishment for all your sins when He died instead of you.
Picture two books containing the biographies of two individ¬uals. One book is the story of your life, the other the life of Jesus. Your book is stained and red, full of sins such as greed, pride, lust, anger and hatred. Christ's book is clean and white, spotless, without one sin ever recorded.
The Bible says that when you are sincerely sorry for your sins and confess them to God, God for¬gives you and cleans¬es you from all unrighteousness. You be¬lieve that Jesus died in your place and suffered for your sins. You have faith in the power of His Blood, and God substitutes the life of Jesus for your life. He takes your name off the red, sin-filled book and puts it on the white, spotless book. He takes the name of Jesus off the clean white book and puts it on the red book. Jesus has suffered and died in your place, bearing the punishment for all your sins. Now when God looks at you, it is as if you have never in your life spoken one wrong word, committed one wrong act or thought one wrong thought.
As you see what Jesus went through in order that you might stand before God as if you had never sinned, you will have no doubts about the love of God for you. You will want to serve God forever. You will not want your way any more, because God has loved you, cleansed you, and shown you that His ways are better than yours.
Isaiah 61:10 As you confess your sins and give your heart to God, you stand before God just as if you had never sinned. God gives you the robe of Christ's righteousness. This robe is given to you; it is the free gift of God that you can never earn. It is this robe that the victorious multitude in Revelation are wearing.
The cleansing of our past is the first thing that happens when you confess your sins and give your heart to God. God cleanses you from your past sins, giving you Christ's righteousness in place of your sinfulness.
The second thing that happens is called the new birth. God changes you and gives you His grace and Spirit so you can live an obedient, Christian life. Jesus said that unless you are born again, born of the Spirit, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.
Ezekiel 36:25 God washes away your sins. Then He gives you a new heart─with new motives, new purposes, and new desires. He takes away your rebellious heart that is at enmity with God, gives you a new heart, and puts His Holy Spirit in you so you will have the ability to do what's right.
When does this happen? It happens when you confess your sins, give your heart to God and ask Him to live in you. No one sees the Holy Spirit come into your life and give you a new heart. But when you confess your sins to God in true repentance, God forgives your sins and gives you a new heart that wants to do right. What's more, He gives you the power to do right by giving you His Holy Spirit to dwell in you. He is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Luke 15:11-17 Read this story of the Prodigal Son. Like this young man, we have all sinned and wandered away from God in various ways. God wants us to come back. When you come to Him, He will welcome you and forgive you. He will take away your guilt and fear and give you peace instead. He will give you a new heart. He will give you His Spirit to strengthen you and deliver you from bondage to your old habits. As you continue to walk with Him, He will change your life completely.
For God so loved the world,
That He gave His only begotten Son,
That whosoever believeth in Him
Should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Why not invite Jesus into your life today?
#4. The Rise of the Antichrist
Date: 2025-11-11
Body:
WHERE WILL ANTICHRIST ARISE?
IS HE ALIVE TODAY?
CAN WE KNOW?
The Bible very clearly predicts an increase of knowledge concerning prophecy in our day. As we study the Daniel Chapter 7, we see that it reviews and expands on Chapter 2. It repeats some things and gives more detail.
Daniel 7:1-3 Daniel dreams that four beasts of prey rise from the sea: first, a lion with eagle wings, second, a bear with three ribs in its mouth, third, a leopard with four wings and four heads, and fourth, a terrible beast with ten horns.
Daniel 7:15-17 Daniel does not understand the dream, but an angel interprets it for him. The four beasts in the dream represent four kings and also the four kingdoms they rule over.
Daniel 7:3 The beasts came up out of the sea. What does the sea, or water, represent? For the answer, turn briefly to Revelation 17.
Revelation 17:1,15 Here John sees a woman sitting on many waters. Verse 15 tells us that the WATERS = PEOPLE, MULTITUDES, NATIONS AND LANGUAGES (TONGUES). With that information, let's go back to Daniel 7.
Daniel 7:15-16 Daniel wanted the truth, just as we do, and God showed it to Him. He will show truth to all who really want to know it.
Daniel 7:17 4 BEASTS = 4 KINGS.
Daniel 7:23 The fourth beast represents the fourth kingdom on earth, which we learned from chapter two is Rome. An important "key" to interpreting Bible prophecy is given here: BEAST = KINGDOM OR NATION.
Daniel 7:3 These symbolic beasts come up out of the symbolic water. The kingdoms they represent come out of an area of many people, multitudes, nations and languages, Europe and the middle east.
Daniel 7:4 The lion with eagles' wings is Babylon. This is a fitting symbol for Babylon as it can be seen in the remains of that ancient city.
Daniel 7:5 The bear raised up on one side is Medo-Persia, the ribs in its mouth representing the nations of Egypt, Lydia and Babylon which it conquered.
Daniel 7:6 The four-headed leopard is Greece. It has four wings, which indicate that it rose and conquered very fast under Alexander the Great. When he died, his four generals, Cassander, Lysimicus, Seleucus and Ptolemy took over, represented by the four heads.
Daniel 7:7 The fourth beast, Rome, had ten "horns." What are they?
Daniel 7:24 The ten horns are ten kingdoms that would arise out of Rome. When Rome became weak and could no longer defend its borders, it was split up by ten tribes. These were the Anglo-Saxons, Franks, Lombards, Alamanni, Burgundians, Suevi, Vandals, Visigoths, Heruli, and Ostrogoths. Seven of these ten kingdoms which came out of the Roman Empire became the nations of western Europe we know today. This is what we learned in Chapter 2, but now something new ...
A Little Horn Comes Up
Daniel 7:8 Daniel "considered the horns" or watched the nations of western Europe. He saw a little horn come up among the ten horns on the fourth beast. All Bible scholars agree that this Little Horn is the Antichrist.
Where Does Antichrist Arise?
Daniel 7:8 The little horn comes up among the ten horns on the fourth beast. Where is that? The fourth beast on which the horns grew is the Roman Empire, and the ten horns all came up in western Europe, so when the little horn comes up among them, it will have to come up where they are, in WESTERN EUROPE.
But this is not the only point we are given to identify the Antichrist.
Daniel 7:24 The little horn comes up AFTER the ten horns.
Daniel 7:8 The little horn PLUCKS UP three of the ten horns.
Daniel 7:24 The little horn is DIVERSE or DIFFERENT from the rest.
Daniel 7:8 Antichrist has a MAN at its HEAD to see and speak for it.
Daniel 7:25 Antichrist speaks blasphemous words.
Daniel 7:21,25 Antichrist persecutes. It also changes times and laws, and rules for a time, times, and the dividing of time.
In the Revelation, John saw the Antichrist, too.
Revelation 13:1-3 John sees a beast coming from the sea. We know that water represents many different kinds of people. The beasts in Daniel 7 also rose from the water, meaning the populated areas of the Middle East and Europe. We also know that a beast represents a kingdom.
Revelation 13:5 This beast-kingdom speaks the same as the little horn and rules for the same time period. (In our next study, we will see how 42 months is the same as time, times and the dividing of time.)
Revelation 13:7 Here we have the same war as in Daniel. This beast is the same power as the little horn. But there is one more mark.
Revelation 13:18 Seven is the number of God, but six is the number of a man. The triple six, 666, represents the fullness of man's will and ways. Therefore, mankind all over the world will be in awe of the Antichrist.
Revelation 13:3 What will the world end up doing? wondering after and worshiping the beast.
Revelation 13:8 Antichrist will attempt to take over the world. At that time there will be two classes of people. Most of the world will worship man-made religion, but those who follow the Bible will worship God in truth. These two religions are in contrast to each other. All religions fall into one or the other, they are either of man or of God.
What Will Happen to Antichrist?
Revelation 19:19-20 The beast will be thrown into the lake of fire. Daniel tells us the same thing.
Daniel 7:25 The judgment is going to sit. It will consume and destroy.
Daniel 7:27 Then God will set up His glorious kingdom.
What Will God's Kingdom Be Like?
Revelation 21:2 John describes a holy city, unlike any city of today. It is the place Jesus went to prepare for us.
Revelation 21:11 The city is clear as crystal.
Revelation 21:16 The city is big enough for everyone who wants to be there, as big as the state of Oregon.
Revelation 21:14,19 The walls have foundations garnished with 12 different precious stones. It will look like a rainbow.
Revelation 21:21 The 12 gates are each made of one pearl.
Revelation 21:3,4 Worth more than gems and pearls is the blood of Jesus, which purchased our entrance into this city.
John 3:16 says it is because of the great love of God the Father that Jesus has become a sacrifice for our sins so we can enjoy heaven.
John 17:20 Jesus prayed that there might be some other way than Calvary, but there was no other way. He had to die in order to save man.
When He contemplated the cross, Jesus looked down through time and saw you. He prayed for you, hoping you would accept His invitation. He saw your struggles; He saw your problems, the disappointments, the discouragements. Unless He went to the cross, you would be without hope, doomed to misery and despair. He saw the cross with all its horror, and the possibility He might not endure the temptations, that He might falter, that His faith might give way, and He might be eternally separated from His living Father. But love for you was stronger than the fear of death.
Jesus wants us so much, He was willing to go to the cross to make it possible for us to be with Him. That's why Jesus waits, that all who will may be saved. Jesus has promised to come again. Nothing is more certain than this.
Babylon
Medo-Persia
Greece
Rome
All were predicted, all came into power. Only one kingdom remains to be set in place, and that is God's kingdom.
God's kingdom is big enough to have a place for you.
Do you want to be part of God's glorious kingdom?
#5. The Antichrist Revealed
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: What did New Testament writers say about Antichrist?
1 John 4:1-3 John counsels us to test the spirits of those who claim to speak for God because some are false prophets, and there is a "spirit of antichrist" that was already in the world in John's time. Antichrist means one who stands in the position or place of Christ.
Matthew 24:24 Jesus said false christs and false prophets would come in the last days and deceive people. They are impostors. If they were open opposers of Christ, they would de¬ceive no one.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 Paul taught that there would be a falling away among believers first, and then the man of sin, the Antichrist, would be re¬vealed. He exalts himself above God and opposes God.
Acts 20:28-30 Here Paul taught that among the church leaders false teachers would arise, drawing away disciples after themselves.
2 Thessalonians 2:4 The man of sin or Antichrist "sits in the temple of God," in other words he has his seat right within the church!
The Bible gives 10 points by which we can identify the Antichrist:
#1. Antichrist is a little kingdom. (Dan. 7:8)
#2. Antichrist rises up in Western Europe. (Dan. 7:8)
#3. Antichrist rises after 476 AD. (Dan. 7:24)
#4. Antichrist destroys 3 of the divisions of Rome. (Dan. 7:8,24)
#5. Antichrist is different from the other horns. (Dan. 7:24)
#6. Antichrist has a man at its head. (Dan. 7:8,20)
#7. Antichrist speaks blasphemy. (Dan. 7:25; John 10:33; Mark 2:7)
John 10:33 It is blasphemy for a man to say that he is God.
Mark 2:7 It is blasphemy for a man to claim to pardon sins.
#8. Antichrist persecutes God's saints. (Dan. 7:21,25)
#9. Antichrist thinks to changes times and laws. (Dan. 7:25)
#10. Antichrist rules for 1260 years. (Dan. 7:25)
Revelation 12:14 This is the same as "time, times, and half a time."
Revelation 12:6 It is "a thousand two hun¬dred threescore days."
The word used for time means year, so time=1 year, times=2 years, and dividing of time=1/2 year─a total of 3 1/2 years. A Bible year has 360 days, so 3 1/2 years multiplied by 360 days per year gives us the 1,260 days in Revelation 12:6. Since prophecy is written in symbols, we can expect prophetic days to be symbolic too. Ezekiel 4:5,6 and Numbers 14:34 tell us that a pro¬phetic day means a real year. So 1,260 days symbolize 1260 years of real time.
The only nation on earth that meets all ten of these is Vatican City. This does NOT mean that Catho¬lic Christians are Antichrist. The organization and what it stands for comprise the Antichrist, not the people within the organiza¬tion.
Revelation 13:5,7 The first beast of Revelation 13 is the Antichrist. It speaks blasphemy, persecutes the saints, and rules for 1260 years just like the little horn of Daniel 7. It is the same as the little horn.
Who is the man with the number 666?
Revelation 13:17,18 666 is the number of the beast, the number of a man, and the number of his name. During the coronation services, the pope is given a Latin title: Vicarius Filii Dei. This title used to be inscribed in his crown as well. "The letters inscribed in the pope's miter are these; Vicarius Filii Dei, which is the Latin for `Vicar of the Son of God.'" Our Sunday Visitor, April 1915. Notice the follow¬ing rendering of the Roman numerals in this name:
V = 5 F = 0 D = 500 112
I = 1 I = 1 E = 0 53
C = 100 L = 50 I = 1 501
A = 0 I = 1 ----------- ------
R = 0 I = 1 501 666
I = 1 -----------
U = 5 53
S = 0
-----------
112
The number 666 is the number of a man, the pope, and the number of his name, Vicarius Filii Dei. It is also the number of the beast, for the pope is the man at the head of the Papacy. So we have another identi¬fying point:
#11. Antichrist's number is 666. (Revelation 13:17,18)
Revelation 13:3 The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation tell us the Papacy would rule for 1260 years. During that time, from 538 AD to 1798 AD, it was unrivaled in its authority. The kings of Europe en¬forced its teachings upon every man, woman and child upon pain of death. Then it received a deadly wound. The support that it once had was cut off. But the Bible says the wound would be healed (Rev. 13:3,4). And we are now watching as never before, the healing of the wound that has kept the Papacy impotent for almost 200 years.
In the book The Keys of this Blood, written by a very close aide to the Vatican and published in 1991, the Catholic Church unveils its plan to take over the world. The wound is healing fast.
"Willing or not, ready or not, we are all involved in an all-out, no-holds-barred, three-way global competition. Most of us are not competitors, however. We are the stakes. For the competition is about who will establish the first one-world system of govern¬ment that has ever existed in the society of nations. It is about who will hold and wield the dual power of authority and control over each of us as individuals and over all of us together as a community; over the entire six billion people expected by demographers to inhabit the earth by early in the third millennium....
"No holds are barred because, once the competition has been decided, the world and all that's in it -- our way of life as individuals and as citizens of the nations; our families and our jobs; our trade and commerce and money; our educa-tional systems and our reli¬gions and our cultures; even the badges of our national identity, which most of us have always taken for granted─all will have been power-ful¬ly and radically altered forever. No one can be exempted from its effects. No sector of our lives will remain un¬touched....
"As to the time factor involved, those of us who are under seventy will see at least the basic structures of the new world government installed. Those of us under forty will surely live under its legislative, executive and judiciary authority and control. Indeed, the three rivals themselves─and many more besides as time goes on─speak about this new world order not as something around a distant corner of time, but as something that is imminent. As a system that will be intro¬duced and installed in our midst by the end of this final decade of the second millennium." Malachi Martin, The Keys Of This Blood, pp. 15,16.
The author of the book states that within the decade of the nineties, the Papacy will accom¬plish its plans. Of its two major oppo-nents, one has already fallen.
Revelation 13:8 There will only be two sides: those who worship the beast and those who follow the Lamb.
How will all the world worship the beast?
Revelation 17:1,2 A harlot woman (impure church) sits on a scarlet colored-beast and makes all the earth drunk with her wine. This apostate church has red and purple clothing on and she is a rich church. She is decked with gold and precious stones and pearls with a golden cup in her hand. She is drunk with the blood of saints and martyrs. [A woman repre-sents a church (Ephesians 5:23-25; 2 Corinthians 11:2). A chaste woman, a pure woman repre¬sents a pure church. An adulterous woman represents an apostate church. Waters represent peoples, nations, & languages (Revelation 17:15).]
Revelation 17:3-6 The scarlet-colored beast has seven heads and ten horns just like the first beast of Revelation 13 (the Antichrist). So did the dragon of Revelation 12 (the devil, who worked through Pagan Rome to destroy Christ and persecute Christians, and then later through Papal Rome to persecute Christians).
Revelation 17:7,9,18 The angel interprets the vision for John. The seven heads on the beast represent seven mountains on which the woman sits. This apostate church is also a great city that reigned over the kings of the earth. The Church of Rome, the Vatican, is seated on the seven-hilled city of Rome. She has shed the blood of saints and martyrs, is extremely rich, and has ruled over the kings of the earth. This woman is the Vatican, the Antichrist.
Revelation 17:8 This scarlet beast "was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition (be destroyed)." "that dwell on the earth shall wonder" is very similar to Revelation 13:3,4, speaking of the beast which is the Antichrist, the Vatican. The Vatican was supported and prospered through the 1260 years (538 AD-1798 AD the time when it "was"), then received a deadly wound (the time when it "is not"), and now the wound is fast healing (the time when it "yet is", when "the earth shall wonder" after it). Finally the beast goes into perdition and is destroyed.
Revelation 17:2 The Papacy gets all the world to worship it by making it drunk with its wine, its teachings.
"...John Paul's goal is a geopolitical structure for the society of nations designed and maintained according to the ethical plans and doctrinal outlines of Christianity as taught and propagated by the Roman Pontiff as the earthly Vicar of Christ." Malachi Martin, The Keys Of This Blood, p.456.
The wound that the Vatican received is fast healing and plans are under way that will bring the Papacy to power again. When the Papacy receives this power, she will rule the world as she did during the 1260 years and will enforce her doctrines, her "wine" that the Bible tells us will make the world "drunk."
We must not drink of this doctrinal wine that will confuse us in these important times. The Bible warns: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roar¬ing lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8
#5a. Reformers Reveal the Beast/Little Horn
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: Every Reformer without exception spoke of the papacy as Antichrist. The papacy has since that time, received it's deadly wound by France in 1798Rev. 13:5,10 and is now becoming popular and powerful as the prophecies predicted!Rev. 13:3 Also according to the scriptures very few people are aware that the prophecies concerning the Antichrist are rapidly being fulfilled and that Jesus' 2nd coming is even at the door!Dan. 12:10, Mt. 24:37-39
Martin Luther (1483-1546) [founder of the Lutheran Church]
“nothing else than the kingdom of Babylon and of very Antichrist….For who is the man of sin and the son of perdition, but he who by his teaching and his ordinances increases the sin and perdition of souls in the church; while he yet sits in the church as if he were God? All these conditions have now for many ages been fulfilled by the papal tyranny.” Martin Luther, First Principles, pp. 196-197
John Calvin (1509-1564) [founder of the Presbyterian Church]
“I deny him to be the vicar of Christ, who, in furiously persecuting the gospel, demonstrates by his conduct that he is Antichrist--I deny him to be the successor of Peter..I deny him to be the head of the church.”
“Some persons think us too severe and censorious when we call the Roman pontiff Antichrist. But those who are of this opinion do not consider that they bring the same charge of presumption against Paul himself, after whom we speak and whose language we adopt…I shall briefly show that (Pauls words in 2 Thessalonians 2) are not capable of any other interpretation than that which applies them to the Papacy” John Calvin, Tracts, Vol. 1, pp. 219,220.
John Calvin, Institutes
John Wesley (1703-1791) [founder of the Methodist Church]
“He is in an emphatical sense, the Man of Sin, as he increases all manner of sin above measure. And he is, too, properly styled the Son of Perdition, as he has caused the death of numberless multitudes, both of his opposers and followers… He it is…that exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped… claiming the highest power, and highest honor… claiming the prerogatives which belong to God alone.” Albert Close, Antichrist and His Ten Kingdoms, London: Thynne and Co., 1917, p. 110.
King James (1566-1625) [Authorized the King James Version of the Bible]
“The faithfull praiseth God for the Popes destruction, and their deliverance," and for "the plagues which are to light on him and his followers." "The Pope by his Pardons makes merchandise of the soules of men: Heaven and the Saints reioyce at his destruction, albiet the earth and the worldlings lament for the same" James I, Paraphrase, in Workes, pp. 47, 57
John Wyclif (1324-1384) [Completed the 1st English translation of the Bible]
“Why is it necessary in unbelief to look for another Antichrist? Hence in the seventh chapter of Daniel Antichrist is forcefully described by a horn arising in the time of the 4th kingdom. For it grew from [among] our powerful ones, more horrible, more cruel, and more greedy, because by reckoning the pagans and our Christians by name, a lesser [greater?] struggle for the temporals is not recorded in any preceding time. Therefore the ten horns are the whole of our temporal rulers, and the horn has arisen from the ten horns, having eyes and a mouth speaking great things against the Lofty One, and wearing out the saints of the Most High, and thinking that he is able to change times and laws.” (Daniel 7:8, 25 quoted) …"For so our clergy foresee the lord pope, as it is said of the eighth blaspheming little head." Translated from Wyclif's, De Veritate Sacrae Scripturae, vol. 3 pp. 262, 263
William Tyndale (1484-1536) [1st translator of the Bible from the Greek]
“The pope's forbidding matrimony, and to eat of meats created of God for man's use, which is devilish doctrine by Paul's prophecy,… are tokens good enough that he is the right antichrist, and his doctrine sprung of the devil.” 1 Timothy 4:1-3 Tyndale, An Answer to Sir Thomas More's Dialogue, in Works, vol. 3, p. 171
John Knox (1505-1572) [Scottish Reformer]
He preached that Romish traditions and ceremonies should be abolished along with “that tyranny which the Pope himself has for so many ages exercised over the church" and that he should be acknowledged as "the son of perdition, of whom Paul speaks." In a public challenge he declared: "As for your Roman Church, as it is now corrupted… I no more doubt but that it is the synagogue of Satan, and the head therof, called the Pope, to be the man of sin of whom the apostle speaketh." Knox, The Zurich Letters, p.199
Philipp Melanchthon (1497-1560) [Associate of Martin Luther]
“Since it is certain that the pontiffs and the monks have forbidden marriage, it is most manifest, and true without any doubt, that the Roman Pontiff, with his whole order and kingdom, is very Antichrist. Likewise in 2 Thess. II, Paul clearly says that the man of sin will rule in the church exalting himself above the worship of God, etc." Translated from Melanchthon, Disputationes, No. 56, "De Matrimonio", in Opera (Corpus Reformatorum), vol. 12 col. 535
Huldreich Zwingli (1484-1531) [great Swiss reformer quoted on Dec. 28, 1524]
“I know that in it works the might and power of the Devil, that is, of the Antichrist… the Papacy has to be abolished… But by no other means can it be more thoroughly routed than by the word of God (2 Thessalonians 2), because as soon as the world receives this in the right way, it will turn away from the Pope without compulsion.” Principle Works of Zwingli,
#6. Angels in the Lasy Days
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: God has often sent angel messengers to warn and instruct His people about important future events. Before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, He sent angels to warn Lot and his family to get out. When Daniel had visions about last-day prophecies, angels interpreted the visions for him. When John the Baptist was to be born, the angel Gabriel was sent to tell the father what to name the child and how to take care of John. But who are the angels? Where do they come from and what is their work?
Psalm 8:4-5 God created man distinctly different from the angels. We are a little lower order of being than they are. Angels have powers and capabilities that we do not have.
Matthew 28:2-3 Even just one angel has tremendous power, as was seen here.
Revelation 5:11 There are millions and millions of angels.
Matthew 25:31 All the holy angels will come with Jesus when He returns to gather His people.
Revelation 22:8 As mighty and holy as angels are, we are not supposed to worship them! Yet many today are doing just that.
Hebrews 1:13 Angels are spirits sent to guide and warn believers.
Our salvation is their main goal.
Luke 2:8 Angels were joyful at the birth of Christ.
Luke 15:10 Angels also are joyful and rejoice when even one sinner repents and is born again.
Psalm 34:7 Angels surround and protect those who trust in God.
Psalm 91:9-11 Why do God's people need such protection? They need it because there is more than one kind of angel! All angels are not the good servants of God.
Revelation 12:7-9 Satan and his angels fell from heaven to earth. They are now fallen angels, no longer in harmony with God. On earth, they continue the war that started in heaven. But many people fail to see that we are all caught up in this spiritual battle.
2 Corinthians 11:14 Satan and his angels often appear to us as if they were holy angels of light.
2 Corinthians 11:15 Satan's ministers appear to be ministers of righteousness, but they are not. They mix truth with error. How can we know if the spirits that come to us are from God or Satan?
Psalm 103:20 God's angels obey God and teach things in harmony with the Bible. That's how we can know they are from God.
Galatians 1:8 If we don't know our Bibles we are in grave danger of listening to the wrong voices and becoming confused.
Revelation 12:12 The devil wants to destroy as many people as possible. He is angry because he knows he does not have much time left to do his terrible work of destruction.
Revelation 14:6 Here an angel is flying in the sky with the everlasting gospel, a message so important every person on the planet must hear it.
Revelation 14:14-16 After this gospel message is preached, Jesus will come. Those that are ready will meet Him in the air as He comes with clouds. A similar message was preached before Christ's first coming.
Revelation 14:6-7 Why is the angel so in earnest? Why is he speaking with a loud voice? He knows what will happen if we do not heed this message! The first part of the message is a warning that the judgment hour is come. That means the judgment is going on at this time, and this message is being given before the second coming of Jesus. Part of the gospel message has to do with our accountability to God. Many people think God will not hold them responsible for their actions. But the judgment is part of the gospel message the angel brings. Why is this message given before the second coming? Because when Jesus returns, He comes with a reward for everyone.
Revelation 22:12 When Jesus returns, the cases of each individual will have been decided. All will be rewarded according to what they have done in this life. The first part of the gospel message at the end tells us we need to get our houses in order.
Daniel 7:8-10 Daniel saw the judgment in session, the books opened. The angels know this and that's why they warn us. Those without Christ have no hope, but those with Christ have every hope.
1 John 5:12 He that has the Son, Jesus, has life; but he that does not have Jesus does not have life.
Daniel 7:13-14 Jesus represents His followers in the judgment. God's angels bring the gospel, but Satan's angels deceive.
1 Timothy 4:1 In the last days there will be seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. Evil angels seduce people, and few realize that the devil has a doctrine or teaching. It is truth mixed with error. Because of this danger, God sends another angel message.
Revelation 14:8 This angel warns that Babylon is fallen. Babylon was where the Tower of Babel was. Man tried to make his own way to get to heaven without accepting God's way. In the last days, Babylon represents religions that teach you not to take the Bible literally. People hear this and become drunk and confused.
Revelation 18:1,2,7 Fallen Babylon glorifies herself and puts her own ideas where God's ideas should be.
Revelation 14:9-10 Babylon tries to get everyone to follow her by enforcing the mark of the beast.
Jeremiah 18:1-4 Just as the potter's vessel was marred, we have been marred by sin. God made man perfect, but Satan has tried to destroy each one of us. But though the clay is marred, God does not cast us away.
Jeremiah 18:4-6 Jesus has the power to remake us into beautiful vessels for His Spirit to live in. All He needs is your permission to remake you. Won't you allow Him to do that? No matter how your life has been marred, no matter how low you feel you have sunk, no matter how unworthy you feel, Jesus Christ wants to remake you. It may be that you know you need the power of Christ in your life. Maybe you have never given your life to Christ. Maybe you see that your life is marred and you want to yield to the power of Jesus to save you and remake you. If you yield to Him and remain yielded, He will transform your life completely!
#7. Antichrist's Attack on America
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: Revelation 12:17 The dragon (Satan in verse 9) is angry with the woman (the church) who keeps the com¬mandments and has the faith of Jesus. The dragon goes to make war with the remnant of this church. A remnant is the last small piece of a larger original piece and is the same as the origi¬nal. The remnant church is the last group of God's people at the end of time who hold the same doc¬trines as God's original people in the early church, keep the com¬mandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 14:12 As the three angels give the end-time messages, God's people are described as those who keep the com¬mandments of God and also have the faith of Jesus.
Matthew 5:17-19 Jesus did not come to destroy the law but to fulfil it. Till heaven and earth pass, no part of the law, however small, will be destroyed. Verses 21 and 27 show that Jesus is making reference to the Ten Com¬mandment law. Since heaven and earth have not yet passed away, we can know that no part of God's law has yet been de¬stroyed.
I John 3:4 Sin is the transgression of the law─the breaking of the Ten Command¬ment Law of God. We have learned from our study of Daniel 7:25 that Antichrist thinks to change laws.
What is the purpose of the law?
Romans 3:20 The law provides the knowledge of what sin is.
James 1:22-25 The law is a spiritual mirror. A mirror shows us the dirt on our face. The law shows us sin in our hearts. The mirror cannot wash the dirt off our face. Neither can the law cleanse us from sin. If we throw the mirror away because we don't like it to show us the dirt on our face, we will walk around with dirt still on us and we won't even know it. If we throw the law away because we don't like it to tell us about sin in our lives, we will keep on sinning without even knowing we are sinning. And that is danger¬ous be¬cause the wages of sin is death─eternal death. The law does not cleanse or save us; instead it points out our sins and then we can go to Jesus, the Savior, for forgive¬ness, cleans¬ing, and power to live in harmo¬ny with the law.
Romans 6:23 The law warns us that we are sinners condemned to die. It tells us we need Jesus to save us.
The Law of God and the Law of Moses
II Kings 21:8 There are two laws: the law of God and the law of Moses.
Exodus 31:18 The law of God was written by God's own finger.
Deuteronomy 10:1-5 God wrote His law on two tables of stone. This law was the Ten Commandments. God's law was put inside the ark.
Deuteronomy 31:24-26 Moses wrote his law in a book and called it the book of the law. Moses' law was put in a compartment on the side of the ark and was a witness against the people.
II Chronicles 33:8 Moses' law was written by the hand of Moses.
II Chronicles 33:8 The handwriting of Moses is called ordinances.
The Two Laws in the New Testament
Colossians 2:14 This is Moses' law because Moses law was "against" the people (Deuteronomy 31:26), because it was the hand¬writing of Moses (II Chroni¬cles 33:8), and because it con¬tained ordinances (II Chronicles 33:8).
Ephesians 2:15 This is Moses' law because Moses' law contained the ordinanc¬es. When Jesus died, the veil of the temple was ripped in two showing that the ceremo¬nial law (of Moses) of offer¬ings and ordi¬nances was nailed to the cross. It was done away with because the Great Sacri-fice had come. We do not need to bring a sacrificial lamb to church for the forgiveness of our sins today! So it was the law of Moses, not the Ten Command¬ments, that was nailed to the cross!
Jesus and the Apostles Teach us to Keep the Law.
Romans 13:9,10 Here we see how the command to love man includes obeying all six of the commandments about our duties to man.
Some people say, "I know God and I love Him with all my heart, but I don't have to keep that old law anymore because Jesus did away with it." Yet John 2:3,4 says, "Hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his command¬ments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his command¬ments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." This is how we see if our love for God is real.
John 14:15 God has given us so much, done so much for us, and He loves us with an everlasting love. He asks us to show our love to Him by keeping His commandments.
John 14:16-18 To those who pledge themselves to love Jesus and show their love by keeping His commandments, Jesus grants the gift of the Holy Spirit to empower them to keep His commandments.
Acts 5:32 The Holy Spirit is given to those that are obedient servants of God. The Bible is clear that God's people at the end of time will be keeping God's commandments (Revelation 12:17; 14:12) not in order to be saved but because of their love and gratitude for the salvation that is in Christ Jesus.
We are not under the law; we are under grace.
Romans 6:14,15 That's exactly right. The Bible says that we are not under the law but under grace. But does this allow us to sin, break¬ing the law? To that question Paul says "God forbid!" What does it mean, then, to be under grace but not under the law?
Romans 3:19 Those who are under the law are guilty before God. They have sinned, and since the wages of sin is death, they are doomed and condemned. The law cannot save them from their plight, but grace can. Grace gives pardon and forgiveness. Then, once we are pardoned and forgiv¬en through faith in Christ, are we free to break the law? As Paul said, "God forbid!"
Suppose a murderer sits in his cell on death row, waiting for the execution of his sentence. As a criminal, he is truly under the law─under its condemnation and doomed to its punishment of death. Just before the execution time, the governor reviews his case and decides to grant him a pardon. Now the criminal is under grace. He's been pardoned. The guard comes and opens his cell. The burden of guilt and condemnation vanishes and joy and praise spring forth from his lips as he walks out of that prison cell as a free man. No one can stop him. He is under the grace of full pardon from the governor. But now can he walk down the street and kill someone because he is under the grace and pardon of the governor? Certainly not! In fact, he is doubly obligated to obey the law because of the grace of the governor. In gratitude and love he will be very careful to honor the laws of the very state that granted him grace and pardon. It is the same way with God's law. We have all sinned. Yet when we confess our sins and give our hearts to Christ, he gives us His grace to cleanse and forgive us. When we receive this grace, we are free from the condemnation and guilt of the law. We are freed from the law's bondage. Yet this does not give us the right to break the law again. Just as the governor ex¬pects the pardoned criminal to honor the state's laws, so Christ's pardon and grace place an obligation on us to honor God's law.
Romans 3:31 A Christian who is saved by grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8) will not seek to do away with the law but uphold the law of God.
Law and grace work in perfect harmony. They are not opposed to each other. The law points out sin and grace saves from sin. The law is the will of God, and grace enables us to do the will of God. We do not obey the law in order to be saved, but because we are saved. An apple tree bears apples because it is an apple tree and not in order to become an apple tree. The child of God obeys the law of God because he is saved by grace and now loves God; he does not do it in order to become a child of God.
If there were no law there would be no sin (Romans 5:13),
And if there were no sin there would be no sinners,
And if there were no sinners there would be no grace,
And if there were no grace there would be no need for a Savior,
And if there were no need for a Savior then Jesus didn't need to die.
Yet Jesus died to be the Savior for sinners who have sinned and broken the law.
"Here is the patience of the saints:
here are they that keep the commandments
of God, and the faith of Jesus."
Revelation 14:12
"Blessed are they
that do His command¬ments,
that they may have right to the tree of life,
and may enter in through the gates
into the city."
Revelation 22:14
#8. When Christianity Follows the Beast!
Date: 2025-11-07
Body: Revelation 13:8 It is vital to have your name in the Lamb's book of life. All who do not will finally worship the beast.
Revelation 14:6,7 Part of the everlasting gospel is to fear God and give glory to Him, because the hour of His judgment is come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. God's people will wor¬ship the Creator. Every¬one else will worship the beast. There will only be two classes, and the issue is over who will have your wor¬ship.
John 1:1-3,14 We worship the Creator by keeping His com¬mand¬ments. Can our love for Jesus motivate us to keep a command¬ment that will also cause us to worship Him as the Cre¬ator?
Exodus 20:11 The fourth commandment says keep the Sabbath for the Lord, the Creator, made heaven and earth. On the seventh day, Jesus made the Sabbath, bless¬ed it and hallowed it. The blessing of God made the Sabbath holy. God's blessing is very powerful.
Exodus 20:8 The commandment says, "Remember the Sabbath day," pointing back to creation and the first Sab¬bath. The Sabbath was not new with the 10 Command¬ments; it was as old as the earth.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:26 On the sixth day, God made man to be His friend.
Genesis 1:31-2:3 On the seventh day, the Creator made the Sab¬bath to be set apart for man to spend time with Him. He blessed and hallowed it, made it holy and set it apart for a holy purpose.
Isn't the Sabbath Just For the Jews?
Exodus 20:8-10 The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God (not of the Jews). The Sabbath is mentioned in the New Testament 55 times, yet not once is it called the Sabbath of the Jews. The commandment says that your family, your employees and the strang¬ers staying in your house (Gentiles who were not born Jews) should also keep the Sabbath. So it was not only for Jews but Gentiles too.
Mark 2:27 Jesus made the Sabbath for man─for all mankind─long before Jews even existed.
"But I Keep Every Day Holy."
Jesus made six working days and one holy day. The command¬ment says that we should work on six days and we should not work on the seventh day. Keeping the seventh day holy includes not work¬ing that day, yet God tells us to work six days. We cannot keep every day holy and still obey the commandment that says work on six days. God made one day holy. We cannot keep something holy that God has never made holy. Abraham Lincoln knew this when in the Gettysburg address he said, "we cannot hallow this ground." We should be Christians and live holy lives every day. By God's grace, we can live holy every day, but we cannot keep every day holy.
The Sabbath Reminds Us of God's Creative Power to Remake Us.
The Sabbath Is a Sign That God Is Our Lord.
Ezekiel 20:12 Jesus gave us the Sabbath. It is a gift from the Savior Himself. The Sabbath is a sign between God and us so we can know that He is the Lord that sanctifies us. To sanctify means to make holy. Just as Jesus made the Sabbath holy, He wants to make us holy. The Sabbath is a sign that identifies us as Christ's.
Ezekiel 20:20 Jesus wants us to hallow His Sabbath and remember it. He wants us to remember the time when there was no sin and that He will soon make a new heaven and earth without sin.
I keep All the Other Com¬mand¬ments. Isn't That Enough?
Matthew 5:17 Jesus did not come to do away with the law, and God's Ten Commandment law includes the seventh-day Sabbath.
James 2:10 If you break one commandment, you have broken them all. We cannot do away with one or two commandments and still keep the law. Breaking the law is sin, no matter how much or little of the law you break.
James 4:17 You cannot serve God halfway. You are either doing the will of God or you are not. Jesus said, "No man can serve two masters." If we love Jesus we will want to follow Him all the way.
Jesus Kept the Sabbath.
Luke 4:16 Jesus' custom or habit was to keep the Sabbath, partici¬pating in public worship each week. This is His example for us to follow. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my command¬ments."
Does It Really Matter As Long As I Keep One Day Holy?
God has given only one day, the seventh-day Sabbath, as the sign between you and Him. This is the only day that is a memorial of God's creative power and a memorial day cannot be changed. Jesus said He gave us His Sabbaths. Should we really tell Him His gift doesn't matter, that it doesn't mean very much to us and that we would rather have another day?
God Knows My Heart.
Deuteronomy 8:2 Some say, "I don't have to keep the Sabbath because God knows what's in my heart." Yet God wants to know whether it is in our hearts to keep His command¬ments, or not.
Can We Really Know Which Day the Sabbath Is Today?
Exodus 20:8-11 The seventh day is the Sabbath.
Luke 23:50-24:3 Jesus died on Friday ("Good Friday"). Joseph of Aramithea took Jesus down from the cross and put Him in the tomb on Friday, which was the preparation day, and verse 54 says that the Sabbath drew on. The women saw Jesus in the tomb on Friday and prepared spices to embalm Him, but they did not em¬balm Him that day. They waited to rest on the Sabbath day, accord¬ing to the commandment, and then came to the sepulchre to embalm Him very early in the morning on the first day of the week (Easter Sunday as we know it). When they arrived, they saw that Jesus had already risen. The Sabbath, according to the command¬ment, fell between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. So then we know that the seventh-day Sabbath of the fourth command¬ment is on Satur¬day.
After Jesus' Death, Didn't His Disciples Keep Sunday?
Acts 17:2 After Jesus' death, it was Paul's habit or manner to reason with the people out of the Scriptures on the Sabbath day.
Acts 13:14 Paul went into the synagogue on the Sabbath. Some say the only reason Paul went to church on Sabbath was to convert the Jews to Christ. Yet we have seen that this was his habit, as it was Christ's, not something he did because it was other people's habit. Even when Paul preached to the Gentiles, he met with them on Sabbath (Acts 13:42). He did not meet with them on Sunday.
Acts 13:43 Paul persuaded the Jews and the proselytes (new Gen¬tile converts) to continue in the grace of God. Paul is preaching about grace to the New Testament Christians, yet he doesn't tell them to keep Sunday instead of Sabbath.
Acts 13:44 After persuading them to continue in the grace of God, he contin¬ues to meet on Sabbath to preach to Gentile Chris¬tians.
Acts 16:13 In the Gentile city of Philippi where there was no Jewish presence, Paul went out into a natural setting beside a river where He could remem¬ber the creation and fellowship with the Creator. He spent the Sabbath hours in devotion and fellowship with other believers.
Acts 20:27 Paul tells us that he has not shunned to declare unto us the whole counsel of God. Yet there is not one verse in any of Paul's writings that says that Sunday is holy, that it is a day of worship, that the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday, or anything of the kind. There is nothing that says this in any of more than 50 New Testa¬ment scriptures that talk about the Sab¬bath.
Did Jesus Teach the Sabbath Should Be Kept After His death?
Matthew 24:19,20 Just before His death, Jesus told His disci¬ples about the destruction of Jerusalem 40 years later, when they would have to flee, and He said to pray that their flight would not be in the winter or on the Sabbath day. Jesus did not change the Sabbath.
Will We Keep the Sabbath in Heaven?
Isaiah 66:22,23 The Sabbath will continue even in heaven.
Why Do Most Christians Keep Sunday?
The Papacy, not Christ or the Bible, thought to change the Sabbath from the seventh day of the week to the first day of the week.
"The pope is of so great authority and power that he can modify, explain, or interpret even divine laws. ... The pope can modify divine law, since his power is not of man, but of God, and he acts a vicegerent of God upon earth." Lucius Ferrari, Prompta Biblioth¬eca, `Papa', Art. 2.
"Question──Which is the Sabbath day?
"Answer──Saturday is the Sabbath day.
"Question──Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
"Answer──We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church trans¬ferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday." Peter Geiermann, C.SS.R., The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50, 1957 edition.
The Bible predicted that the beast power, the Antichrist, would think to change the law of God. But how can almost the whole Christian world be going to church on the wrong day? Remember, the Bible tells us that "All the world wondered after the beast." So it shouldn't surprise us when see nearly all the Christian world follow¬ing the beast when it attempts to change God's law.
What About My Job, My Family, My Friends?
Psalm 37:25 God never forsakes us. He always provides our needs.
Matthew 6:31-33 Jesus knows we need food and clothing. If we try to serve Him first, God promises to supply our needs. That is where faith comes in. God is a kind, heavenly Father. We must trust Him.
Luke 6:22,23 Jesus was thought strange. He says to rejoice when people reproach you, because your reward is in heaven. And even on this earth, the only true joy comes in follow¬ing Christ.
#9. A Thief in the Night
Date: 2025-11-07
Body: Acts 1:9 Note the recurring words in this verse: beheld, sight, looked, gazing, seen.
Acts 1:9-11 Jesus went to heaven literally and visibly. The angels said He would return "in like manner as ye have seen him go" into heaven. How did Jesus go up? He went up visibly, with clouds.
Revelation 1:7 "Behold, He cometh with clouds." Isn't that just like Acts 1? Jesus went up to heaven with clouds, and here the Bible says He will return with clouds. The angels said "in like manner" and the book of Revelation agrees perfectly. How many will see Christ coming? Every eye, not only the righteous but the wicked as well. Why are the wicked wailing? Maybe they didn't think Jesus was real; or didn't think it mattered if they were ready or not, or didn't think He would come so soon. Then they realize they put it off until it was too late. They rejected God's offer of eternal life and now they see their great mistake. Look at it again in
Revelation 14:14-16 Again we have clouds, just as in Acts 1. Notice that when Jesus comes, it is to reap; He comes reaping a harvest; some¬thing is being gathered into barns. He comes to get His people.
I Thessalonians 4:16 This is "the word of the Lord." It says "the Lord him¬self" will come with a shout, voice, a trump. This is so loud the dead are being awakened. It doesn't sound secret at all.
II Thessalonians 4:17 "Then," when the shout, the voice, and the trump are all sounding, and the dead are rising, the living are caught up to meet Jesus in the clouds. Here the saints are gath¬ered, caught up, at the time when Jesus is coming with clouds, at the time when everyone is hearing, everyone seeing. There is complete harmony with what we read in Acts and Revelation. According to what we read, Antichrist must come before the saints are gathered, before Jesus comes. Is that found anywhere else in the Bible?
II Thessalonians 2:1,2 Paul is discussing the second coming and the gathering, and he says that the day of Christ is not at hand in his (Paul's) day. There was confu¬sion regarding the second coming and the gather¬ing even then. Paul said no matter what communication the Thessalonian Christians received, the day of Christ was not at hand during their day. Why not? What was the reason?
II Thessalonians 2:3 The day of Christ's coming and the gathering of the saints was not to come until after there was a falling away and the man of sin was revealed, or made visible, that is until the man of sin would be seen. Paul warns the saints not to be deceived here; the man of sin would come first, then Christ would come and gather the saints. Jesus also warned that false ideas regard¬ing His coming would come in.
Matthew 24:24-26 Be forewarned, Jesus said, If they say Jesus comes in the secret chambers, or in a secret way, don't believe it. Why not believe it? Because His coming is not going to be secret.
Matthew 24:27,28 It will be like lightning─we can see it, and thun-der─we can hear it. Jesus also tells when the saints will be gath¬ered.
Matthew 24:29,30,31 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days, ... and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." And (vs. 31) "He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." After the tribulation, Christ will appear, and then all the tribes will mourn, and then the angels will gather the saints. Notice there will be a great sound of a trum¬pet, there will be angels, the wicked will be mourning, and all will see Jesus coming in the clouds with power and great glory. Is that secret? No. The saints will be gathered, but it will not be se¬cret¬ly!
Gathering = 2nd coming
What happens to the wicked? Why are they weeping and wail¬ing?
Matthew 13:29,30 Jesus told a parable. A man sowed good seed, but weeds ap¬pear. The servants want to uproot the weeds, but both must grow together till the harvest. The saints and the wicked grow together, both remain in the world until the harvest. What har¬vest?
Matthew 13:39 The harvest is the end of the world. In Revela¬tion we saw Jesus reap the harvest. The saints and the wicked remain till the end, when the saints are gathered and caught up to meet Jesus in the clouds. What happens to the wicked at the har¬vest?
Matthew 13:30 The wicked are gathered into bundles to be burned.
Matthew 13:40-43 It is crystal clear that at the harvest the wicked are slain first, then the saints are gathered by angels to the clouds
Matthew 13:47-50 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea, and the net gathered of every kind. When it was full, they came to shore and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." The words of Jesus are so plain. The angels sever the wicked from among the just. The wicked are slain. That's why they are wail¬ing; they know it's all over for them.
II Thessalonians 1:7 Here we see the coming of the Lord, and ven¬geance being taken with flaming fire. Let's review. Antichrist is re¬vealed before the saints are gathered. The 2nd coming is visible and audible to ev-eryone. The wicked are mourn¬ing because they are not ready. The wicked are slain by the fiery brightness of the 2nd coming. The saints are gathered by the angels into the clouds at the 2nd coming.
What does it mean that Christ is coming as a thief in the night?
Always, when a thief in the night is talked about, the Bible refers to the timing and not the manner of Jesus' coming.
Matthew 24:42-44 "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.... if the goodman of the house had know in what watch the thief would come ... in such an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh." These are references to the timing of the thief's coming. If a thief came to a house, he would come when not expect¬ed, and likewise the second coming will take men by sur¬prise. That's why there will be mourning, but it won't be secret!
I Thessalonians 5:1-4 "Of the times and the seasons ... the day of the lord so cometh as a thief in the night.... But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief."
The day, not Jesus, comes as a thief. This is about the timing and not the man¬ner of His coming. The Bible says if the day surprises us we are in darkness. It's so clear, so simple, so plain when you just look at the texts for what they say. The day will come unexpectedly, the tribes of the earth will mourn, because they didn't expect Him and they are unpre-pared. The saints are caught up, but it will not be secret! What does it mean then that one will be taken and one left?
Matthew 24:36-39 Notice they knew not, but why not? because they couldn't know? They had 120 years, yet when the flood came, it came unex¬pectedly and it took them all away. Where did the flood take them to? to the bot¬tom of the sea. The wicked were de¬stroyed.
Matthew 24:40-42 What is Jesus telling us here? There will be two groups; the righteous will be saved and the wicked will be lost.
Luke 17:34-36 "There shall be two men in one bed; one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding together; one shall be taken and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; one shall be tak¬en, and the other left." Again, we see two classes, one class lost and the other class saved. Jesus ex¬plained this in
Luke 17:26-30 As it was in the days of Noah and Lot, "Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." What did the flood do? It destroyed the ones that weren't saved. When the flood was over, who was left to tell about it? Only Noah and his family were alive. The rest were de¬stroyed. In the same way, only Lot and part of his family were left alive when Sod¬om was de¬stroyed.
The evidence is overwhelming:
Antichrist will be revealed before the saints are gath¬ered.
The second coming will be visible and audible to everyone.
The wicked will mourn because they are not ready.
The wicked will be slain at the second com¬ing.
The saints will be gathered in the clouds at the second coming.
Will God be with us during the tribulation? Jesus said He would be with us "even unto the end of the world."
Psalm 91:5 "He shall give his angels charge over thee ... They shall bear thee up in their hands." Here's why: "because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name."
Revelation 3:10,11 Jesus promises to protect and deliv¬er those that keep His word.
Jesus is coming after the tribula¬tion, but hold fast, and "Listen to what the Spirit says to the churc¬hes" in
Revelation 3:12
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Acceptable Methods of Fundraising

First from “Fundamentals of Christian Education”
“Long ago the teachers and students in our schools should have learned to take advantage of the opportunity to raise means by the sale of "Christ's Object Lessons." In selling these books the students will serve the cause of God, and, while doing this, by the dissemination of precious light, they will learn invaluable lessons in Christian experience. All our schools should now come into line, and earnestly endeavor to carry out the plan presented to us for the education of the workers, for the relief of the schools, and for the winning of souls to the cause of Christ.” {FE 520.3}
Five Unmistakable Points from this Text that I have gleaned are as follows:
1. We should take advantage of Selling books as a means to bring “relief” to the schools.
2. This is the plan for ALL our schools and our school RMS should “come into line” with this plan.
3. Our students will learn invaluable lessons in Christian experience which in the long run may help keep them from leaving the church later in life.
4. This plan has the side benefit of being evangelistic and help win souls to the cause of Christ.
5. This is Heaven’s plan, she said it was “presented to us”, when Ellen says “presented” she is referring to direct instructions from Jesus or His angels, in this case she uses “us” rather than “me”, as maybe this answer for this situation came to her when several were gathered together to pray about it.)
Second: From Loma Linda Messages page 334.3
“The work that was done in collecting money to lift the school debt in Southern Calif. was not a work of God's ordering. He gave our schools the precious book "Christ's Object Lessons" and He wants that book to be appreciated. The students have lost precious lessons because they have not taken up the work of pushing the sale of these books. There is a most valuable experience to be gained by those who will aid in doing this work for the benefit of our educational institutions. If teachers and students will act their part in this missionary enterprise, angels of God will open the way before them. {LLM 334.3}
In this new year let new methods be recommended. Let parents encourage their children to act a part in the circulation of "Christ's Object Lessons." This will instruct the children in acts of self-denial. The work of selling "Christ's Object Lessons" is a work that Christ would have the children engage in and they themselves will be blessed in the work. Light, precious light, is contained in the book, which every family should follow.
Five additional points gained or reiterated from this text are as follows:
6. The book Christ’s Object Lessons was given by God to the schools for the very purpose of fundraising
7. God wants Christ’s Object Lessons to be appreciated
8. The students will lose out a precious and valuable Christian experience if they don’t take up the work of selling this book.
9. Angels will open the way for students who sell this book, what a promise we could claim!!!
10. This is a work that Jesus would have the “children” engage in and themselves be blessed also.
The third and Last text: Counsels on Stewardship 201.1
We see the churches of our day encouraging feasting, gluttony, and dissipation, by the suppers, fairs, dances, and festivals gotten up for the purpose of gathering means into the church treasury. Here is a method invented by carnal minds to secure means without sacrificing. {CS 201.1}
Such an example makes an impression upon the minds of youth. They notice that lotteries and fairs and games are sanctioned by the church, and they think there is something fascinating in this way of obtaining means. A youth is surrounded by temptations. He enters the bowling alley, the gambling saloon, to see the sport. He sees the money taken by the one who wins. This looks enticing. It seems an easier way of obtaining money than by earnest work, which requires persevering energy and strict economy. He imagines there can be no harm in this; for similar games have been resorted to in order to obtain means for the benefit of the church. Then why should he not help himself in this way? {CS 201.2}
He has a little means, which he ventures to invest, thinking it may bring in quite a sum. Whether he gains or loses, he is in the downward road to ruin. But it was the example of the church that led him into the false path. {CS 201.3}
Lame and Diseased Offerings
Let us stand clear of all these church corruptions, dissipations, and festivals, which have a demoralizing influence upon young and old. We have no right to throw over them the cloak of sanctity because the means is to be used for church purposes. Such offerings are lame and diseased, and bear the curse of God. They are the price of souls. The pulpit may defend festivals, dancing, lotteries, fairs, and luxurious feasts, to obtain means for church purposes; but let us participate in none of these things; for if we do, God's displeasure will be upon us. We do not propose to appeal to the lust of the appetite or resort to carnal amusements as an inducement to Christ's professed followers to give of the means which God has entrusted to them. If they do not give willingly, for the love of Christ, the offering will in no case be acceptable to God. {CS 201.4}
Here are some additional points that I gleaned from this text, likely you can find more:
11. Suppers, fairs, dances, and festivals gotten up for the purpose of gathering means into the church treasury is WRONG
12. These methods were invented by Carnal minds.
13. These methods have a bad influence on the youth and set them to fail to resist future temptations.
14. Through these examples the Churches have lead many youth down the wrong path.
15. These things have a DEMORALIZING influence upon the youth.
16. The money raised is “lame and diseased, and bears the curse of God”
17. The money is raised at the expense of the souls of our own children.
18. If we participate in these things God’s displeasure will be upon us.
After studying this further and prayerfully thinking about these quotes I have decided that I cannot in good conscience support the October festival at RMS.
Based on these texts here are the following things that I could support:
1. Literature evangelism. Currently, Judit from the conference is likely free to come to RMS and train the students as well as work with them in going door to door. Also, my wife and children said they would also volunteer to help in the training and/or the selling of books to benefit the school. (Based on experience of this summer I would guess that in two days my family could raise a minimum of $400 doing this. With proper training and attitudes and the blessing of God, and if the RMS children and Judit also worked, we could maybe raise the entire $2500 in just two or three days.)
2. A spring plant sale, featuring tomato starts, pepper starts, bedding plants etc. (We sold $4000 in plants one season from a little 7 x 14ft greenhouse. The greenhouse RMS has is much better and larger than the one we had.) I could help in this endeavor if you need it.
3. The students could also have a bake sale and sell the things they make such as breads, healthy cookies, etc., that would double as a way of giving our health message to the community. Many of our church members would surely buy bread etc. If you would like my family’s help in this we could help in this endeavor as well.
I write this to you as your pastor trying to be a faithful under-shepherd giving you the counsel that I believe Jesus would give.
Please prayerfully consider this for the sake of our school, our community, and our children,
Sincerely, John Quade
Card Playing
Date: 2025-11-13
Body:
In many religious families dancing and card playing are made a parlor pastime. It is urged that these are quiet home amusements, which may be safely enjoyed under the parental eye. But a love for these exciting pleasures is thus cultivated, and that which was considered harmless at home will not long be regarded dangerous abroad. It is yet to be ascertained that there is any good to be obtained from these amusements. They do not give vigor to the body nor rest to the mind. They do not implant in the soul one virtuous or holy sentiment. On the contrary, they destroy all relish for serious thought and for religious services. It is true that there is a wide contrast between the better class of select parties and the promiscuous and degraded assemblies of the low dance house. Yet all are steps in the path of dissipation. {AH 516.3}
Christ the Compassionate Physician
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: The Scripture says that "men ought always to pray, and not to faint" Luke 18:1; and if ever there is a time when they feel their need of prayer, it is when strength fails and life itself seems slipping from their grasp. Often those who are in health forget the wonderful mercies continued to them day by day, year after year, and they render no tribute of praise to God for His benefits. But when sickness comes, God is remembered. When human strength fails, men feel their need of divine help. And never does our merciful God turn from the soul that in sincerity seeks Him for help. He is our refuge in sickness as in health. {CCh 303.1}
Christ is the same compassionate physician now that He was during His earthly ministry. In Him there is healing balm for every disease, restoring power for every infirmity. His disciples in this time are to pray for the sick as verily as the disciples of old prayed. And recoveries will follow; for "the prayer of faith shall save the sick." We have the Holy Spirit's power, the calm assurance of faith, that can claim God's promises. The Lord's promise, "They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" Mark 16:18, is just as trustworthy now as in the days of the apostles. It presents the privilege of God's children, and our faith should lay hold of all that it embraces. Christ's servants are the channel of His working, and through them He desires to exercise His healing power. It is our work to present the sick and suffering to God in the arms of our faith. We should teach them to believe in the Great Healer. The Saviour would have us encourage the sick, the hopeless, the afflicted, to take hold upon His strength. {CCh 303.2}
Church Grumblers
Date: 10-24-2025
Body: There are in our churches those who profess the truth who are only hindrances to the work of reform. They are clogs to the wheels of the car of salvation. This class are frequently in trial. Doubts, jealousies, and suspicion, are the fruits of selfishness, and seem to be interwoven with their very natures. I shall name this class chronic church-grumblers. They do more harm in a church than two ministers can undo. They are a tax to the church and a great weight to the ministers of Christ. They live in an atmosphere of doubts, jealousies, and surmisings. Much time and labor of the embassadors of Christ are required to undo their work of evil, and restore harmony and union in the church. This takes from the courage and strength of God’s servants and unfits them for 8 work he has for them to do in saving perishing souls from ruin. God will reward these troublers of Zion according to their works. The ministers of Christ should take their position, and not be hindered in their work by these agents of Satan. There will be enough of these to question, and quibble, and criticise, to keep the ministers of God constantly busy, if they will allow themselves to be detained from the great work of giving the last saving message of warning to the world. If the church has no strength to stand against the unsanctified, rebellious feelings of church-grumblers, it is better to let church and grumblers go overboard together than lose the opportunity of saving hundreds who would make better churches, and have the elements existing within themselves of strength and union and power. ST September 4, 1879, par. 13
Conditions of Answered Prayer
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: But only as we live in obedience to His word can we claim the fulfillment of His promises. The psalmist says, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me." Psalm 66:18. If we render to Him only a partial, halfhearted obedience, His promises will not be fulfilled to us. {CCh 303.3}
In the word of God we have instruction relative to special prayer for the recovery of the sick. But the offering of such prayer is a most solemn act, and should not be entered upon without careful consideration. In many cases of prayer for the healing of the sick, that which is called faith is nothing less than presumption. {CCh 303.4}
Many persons bring disease upon themselves by their self-indulgence. They have not lived in accordance with natural law or the principles of strict purity. Others have disregarded the laws of health in their habits of eating and drinking, dressing, or working. Often some form of vice is the cause of feebleness of mind or body. Should these persons gain the blessing of health, many of them would continue to pursue the same course of heedless transgression of God's natural and spiritual laws, reasoning that if God heals them in answer to prayer, they are at liberty to continue their unhealthful practices and to indulge perverted appetite without restraint. If God were to work a miracle in restoring these persons to health, He would be encouraging sin. {CCh 304.1}
It is labor lost to teach people to look to God as a healer of their infirmities, unless they are taught also to lay aside unhealthful practices. In order to receive His blessing in answer to prayer, they must cease to do evil and learn to do well. Their surroundings must be sanitary, their habits of life correct. They must live in harmony with the law of God, both natural and spiritual. {CCh 304.2}
Prayers for the Sick
Date: 2025-11-11
Body: To those who desire prayer for their restoration to health, it should be made plain that the violation of God's law, either natural or spiritual, is sin, and that in order for them to receive His blessing, sin must be confessed and forsaken. {CCh 304.3}
The Scripture bids us, "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed." James 5:16. To the one asking for prayer, let thoughts like these be presented: "We cannot read the heart, or know the secrets of your life. These are known only to yourself and to God. If you repent of your sins, it is your duty to make confession of them." Sin of a private character is to be confessed to Christ, the only mediator between God and man. For "if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." 1 John 2:1. Every sin is an offense against God and is to be confessed to Him through Christ. Every open sin should be as openly confessed. Wrong done to a fellow being should be made right with the one who has been offended. If any who are seeking health have been guilty of evilspeaking, if they have sowed discord in the home, the neighborhood, or the church, and have stirred up alienation and dissension, if by any wrong practice they have led others into sin, these things should be confessed before God and before those who have been offended. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. {CCh 304.4}
When wrongs have been righted, we may present the needs of the sick to the Lord in calm faith, as His Spirit may indicate. He knows each individual by name, and cares for each as if there were not another upon the earth for whom He gave His beloved Son. Because God's love is so great and so unfailing, the sick should be encouraged to trust in Him and be cheerful. To be anxious about themselves tends to cause weakness and disease. If they will rise above depression and gloom, their prospect of recovery will be better; for "the eye of the Lord is upon them" "that hope in His mercy." Psalm 33:18. {CCh 304.5}
In prayer for the sick it should be remembered that "we know not what we should pray for as we ought." Romans 8:26. We do not know whether the blessing we desire will be best or not. Therefore our prayers should include this thought: "Lord, thou knowest every secret of the soul. Thou art acquainted with these persons. Jesus, their Advocate, gave His life for them. His love for them is greater than ours can possibly be. If, therefore, it is for Thy glory and the good of the afflicted ones, we ask, in the name of Jesus, that they may be restored to health. If it be not Thy will that they may be restored, we ask that Thy grace may comfort and Thy presence sustain them in their sufferings." {CCh 305.1}
God knows the end from the beginning. He is acquainted with the hearts of all men. He reads every secret of the soul. He knows whether those for whom prayer is offered would or would not be able to endure the trials that would come upon them should they live. He knows whether their lives would be a blessing or a curse to themselves and to the world. This is one reason why, while presenting our petitions with earnestness, we should say, "Nevertheless not my will, but Thine, be done." Luke 22:42. Jesus added these words of submission to the wisdom and will of God when in the Garden of Gethsemane He pleaded, "O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me." Matthew 26:39. And if they were appropriate for Him, the Son of God, how much more are they becoming on the lips of finite, erring mortals! {CCh 305.2}

Theatre - Blunting Tranquil Pleasures
Date: 2025-11-13
Body: There is no influence in our land more powerful to poison the imagination, to destroy religious impressions, and to blunt the relish for the tranquil pleasures and sober realities of life than theatrical amusements. The love for these scenes increases with every indulgence as the desire for intoxicating drink strengthens with its use. The only safe course is to shun the theater, the circus, and every other questionable place of amusement.
The Fear of Being Singular.--Professed Christians who are superficial in character and religious experience are used by the tempter as his decoys. This class are always ready for the gatherings for pleasure or sport, and their influence attracts others. Young men and women who have tried to be Bible Christians are persuaded to join the party, and they are drawn into the ring. They do not prayerfully consult the divine standard to learn what Christ has said in regard to the fruit to be borne on the Christian tree. They do not discern that these entertainments are really Satan's banquet, prepared to keep souls from accepting the call to the marriage supper of the Lamb and preventing them from receiving the white robe of character, which is the righteousness of Christ. They become confused as to what it is right for them as Christians to do. They do not want to be thought singular, and naturally incline to follow the example of others. Thus they come under the influence of those who have never had the divine touch on heart or mind.
God's Last Message Regarded With Indifference.-- As the time of their probation was closing, the antediluvians gave themselves up to exciting amusements and festivities. Those who possessed influence and power were bent on keeping the minds of the people engrossed with mirth and pleasure, lest any should be impressed by the last solemn warning. Do we not see the same repeated in our day? While God's servants are giving the message that the end of all things is at hand, the world is absorbed in amusements and pleasure seeking. There is a constant round of excitement that causes indifference to God and prevents the people from being impressed by the truths which alone can save them from the coming destruction. {AH 524.2}
We might see a different order of things should a number consecrate themselves wholly to God, and then devote their talents to the Sabbath-school work, ever advancing in knowledge, and educating themselves so that they would be able to instruct others as to the best methods to employ in the work; but it is not for the workers to seek for methods by which they can make a show, consuming time in theatrical performances and musical display, for this benefits no one. It does no good to train the children to make speeches for special occasions. CE 135
We tremble for the youth of our day because of the example that is given them by those who profess to be Christians. We cannot close the door of temptation to the youth, but we can educate them that their words and their actions may have a direct bearing upon their future happiness or misery. They will be exposed to temptation. They will meet foes without and foes within, but they can be instructed to stand firm in their integrity, having moral principle to resist temptation. The lessons given our youth by world-loving professors are doing great harm. The festal gatherings, the gluttonous feasts, the lotteries, tableau and theatrical performances, are doing a work that will bear a record with its burden of results to the judgment. {Con 68.1}
All these inconsistencies, sanctioned by professed Christians under a garb of Christian beneficence, to collect means to pay church expenses, have their influence with the youth to make them lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. They think if Christians can encourage and engage in these lotteries and scenes of festivities, and connect them with sacred things, why may not they be safe in taking an interest in lotteries and in engaging in gambling to win money for special objects. {Con 68.2}
It is Satan's studied plan to clothe sin with garments of light to hide its deformity and make it attractive. And ministers and people professing righteousness unite with the adversary of souls to help him in his plans. Never was there a time when every member of the church should feel his responsibility to walk humbly and circumspectly before God as at the present.
Those who bear the responsibility at the sanitarium should be exceedingly guarded that the amusements shall not be of a character to lower the standard of Christianity, bringing this institution down upon a level with others and weakening the power of true godliness in the minds of those who are connected with it. Worldly or theatrical entertainments are not essential for the prosperity of the sanitarium or for the health of the patients. The more they have of this kind of amusements, the less will they be pleased unless something of the kind shall be continually carried on. The mind is in a fever of unrest for something new and exciting, the very thing it ought not to have. And if these amusements are once allowed, they are expected again, and the patients lose their relish for any simple arrangement to occupy the time. But repose, rather than excitement, is what many of the patients need. {CH 240.1}
As soon as these entertainments are introduced, the objections to theatergoing are removed from many minds, and the plea that moral and high-toned scenes are to be acted at the theater breaks down the last barrier. Those who would permit this class of amusements at the sanitarium would better be seeking wisdom from God to lead these poor, hungry, thirsting souls to the Fountain of joy and peace and happiness. {CH 240.2}
Death, clad in the livery of heaven, lurks in the pathway of the young. Sin is gilded over by church sanctity. These various forms of amusement in the churches of our day have ruined thousands who, but for them, might have remained upright and become the followers of Christ. Wrecks of character have been made by these fashionable church festivals and theatrical performances, and thousands more will be destroyed; yet people will not be aware of the danger, nor of the fearful influences exerted. Many young men and women have lost their souls through these corrupting influences.--R. & H., Nov. 21, 1878.
If the Sanitarium shall retrograde as rapidly in the future as it has done in the past, in introducing worldly amusements and theatrical performances, the Lord will withdraw his protecting care from that institution. His frown is upon all these things. Testimony for Physicians and Helpers, p. 69
CARD PLAYING
In many religious families dancing and card playing are made a parlor pastime. It is urged that these are quiet home amusements, which may be safely enjoyed under the parental eye. But a love for these exciting pleasures is thus cultivated, and that which was considered harmless at home will not long be regarded dangerous abroad. It is yet to be ascertained that there is any good to be obtained from these amusements. They do not give vigor to the body nor rest to the mind. They do not implant in the soul one virtuous or holy sentiment. On the contrary, they destroy all relish for serious thought and for religious services. It is true that there is a wide contrast between the better class of select parties and the promiscuous and degraded assemblies of the low dance house. Yet all are steps in the path of dissipation. {AH 516.3}
